Growing importance of Online medium leads to website campaign launch

India is going to elect a new President, 13th since 1952, on July 19, 2007 . It is an indirect election, insofar as the President is elected not by the general electorate but by an electoral college comprising 776 Members of Parliament and 4896 Members of State Legislatures.

The Know Pratibha Patil website launched at the residence of M Venkaiah Naidu and Jaitly confirmed that he has the permission of the party chief. According to him, the website is a campaign to provide an informed choice to the Electoral College.

The website asks-

# Has Smt. Pratibha Patil been chosen as the UPA’s candidate because of her loyalty to the ‘Nehru Dynasty’?

#
Is her ‘vulnerability’ an additional ‘qualification’ for being chosen as the Presidential candidate?

# Will Smt. Pratibha Patil remain committed to the Constitution of India or, as in the case of Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed during the Emergency, to her sponsors who have nominated her?

# Doesn’t Smt. Pratibha Patil have a moral responsibility to respond credibly to the allegations made against her?

The website has a complete 'Biodata' also. A Candidate's Bio-Data is a compilation of reports and articles appearing in the media about the life and work of Smt. Pratibha Patil. All these practices are the beautiful example of growing importance of Internet communication medium in India. Is there anybody from electronic medium or print medium listening me???
